Advancing Child Health and Learning through Community-based Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) admin, January 31, 2024May 15, 2024 The Reina Federation runs Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) activities in communities across Quezon province. SNP provides structured play-based learning for children ages 3-4 who are not enrolled in daycare. Here is an overview of how SNP works: Activities are facilitated by trained volunteers, from the community. They guide small groups of around 10-15 children. Children participate in 1-hour sessions 3 times a week. The activities take place right within their neighborhood, often using available spaces like barangay halls. The sessions involve games, songs, storytelling, and hands-on learning focused on building foundational skills in areas like numeracy, literacy, motor skills, and socio-emotional development. Parents and families are also engaged through parenting sessions to foster early learning at home. Learning materials like books, toys, and visual aids are provided to create an engaging and nurturing environment for the children’s development. Through accessible play-driven activities, SNP stimulates growth, knowledge, and school-readiness among young children not in daycare. We are committed to continuing and expanding this program across more barangays. Video 1: Our SNP facilitator leads an engaging lesson about body parts for these cute nursery students. The kids actively participate and get to apply their knowledge by pointing out their head, eyes, ears, nose, and more based on the facilitator’s cues.
