CARES Children’s Advocacy for Resilient Environment Situation DOMAIN: Children and young adolescents are healthy and actively participate in community lifePATHWAY: Positive engagement for CYA The Federation believes and recognize the ability of children and youth in achieving a disaster resilient community. For that reason, a total of 90 children take the lead and influence their community as a result of capacity building given by the Federation. This year, a total of 1,569 children aged 6-14 years old (775 male, 794 female) participated in Child Development Session in 26 covered villages of Reina Federation in Real, Infanta, and General Nakar, Quezon regarding the Safety Skills Training. jAs a matter of fact, BCA Officers execute the roll-out in their respective organization effectively. And accordingly, children learned a lot in their CD Session for there is an increase of retention this quarter that can be shown in their evaluation forms. Children remember the topic as they eagerly want to share it to others. Mirasol Laboy, an enrolled child from ICOMPAS village has mentioned in her evaluation that she learned a lot due to good execution of Child Development Session. Marian Joy Astrera also commented that beside on first aid training, she also learned the importance of being prepared including mitigation. (SRCD; August 20, 2017). More so, as part of children’s participation in DRRM, 60 parents are oriented in children’s rights due to the initiative of these children to invite their parents. “I’ve learned many lessons regarding calamities. Further, as a result of lobbying and networking of the Federation including the BCYAs initiatives in the community, a total of 805 children received child-friendly services of service providers such as the Safety Skills Training initiated and led by the SGC of Banugao and Lubayat Elem School, the HVCA activity of School Emergency Response Unit (SERU) of Infanta Central with children participation, and last but not the least the DSWD 4Ps PANTAWID organized activity or Orientation of CYAs on UNCRC, Financial Literacy, and Climate Change which are led by Reina Federation BCYA leaders. Also, last August 1, 2017, Infanta, Quezon received the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance, an award from the Council for the Welfare of the Children (CWC), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This shows that service providers are demonstrating child-friendly services in the community. “This training helps me to gain new knowledge on first aid and different bandage forms which I can confidently share now in our organization” – Ramiline Resplandor BCA President (SRCD Preparatory Activity). Meanwhile, a total of 32 CYA or 123% of the year II target are provided with practical skills and knowledge on identifying, preventing and responding to exposure to risks; and 16 CYAs shared their knowledge to their families regarding on DRR based on the home Visitation.These children acknowledge that through trainings given by the Federation and the conduct of CD sessions helped them to gain knowledge and confidence in DRRM. Also, as a part of preparation to achieve that CYA have learned the protection, preparedness and coping mechanisms, 147 teachers and children from all schools of Infanta District participated in the capacity enhancement training focused on safety skills training and bandaging and HVCA activity of School Emergency Response Unit (SERU). As a result, 375% or a total of 8 out of 3 covered schools finished SBDRR with participation of their SERU officers. This only shows that CYA are provided with opportunities within the family and community to voice their opinions and participation. Lastly, as a part of preparation wherein households of covered areas are able to implement inclusive family DRM practices in their homes, 1,082 of parents accomplished DRR PAMILYANG LISTO and able to prepare their own E-BALDE. With these initiatives, the community of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar will become truly a disaster resilient community.
