YOUTH-LED Youth Organizations United in Harmonizing Leadership, Empowerment and Development Project The young people empowered and trained by Reina Federation are continually increasing their influence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management in the community of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar. As Federation partner in change, the youth plays an important role in advocating the DRRM. Emerging outcomes are visible and documented such as BYAs are recognized in their respective barangays as their partner in environmental protection. In fact, the result of last FY17’s Capacity Building given by Reina Federation, a total of 156 YA members participated in the Capacity Enhancement meetings and made their environmental Activity design. Consequently, a total of 823 members (492 females, 331 males) of 22 Barangay Youth Associations of REINA take lead to continue their advocacy on environmental protection activities. In line with this, 220 seedlings are planted and 5 kilometers coastline and road have been cleaned. “Whatever I have learned as a leader, I must share it to others (kung ano ang nalalaman ko bilang leader ay kailangan kong ibahagi sa ibang kabataan lalo na ang aking nalalaman”. -LP BYA More so, as a result of youth advocacy, three (3) BYAs influenced their respective barangays to create and implement Solid Waste Management-related Barangay Ordinances and provided accessible locations for trash can holders in their barangays. To date, a total of 21 trash cans are provided by the Federations through their BYAs initiatives and two (2) BYAs put trash cans in different Purok of their Barangays with support from concerned Barangay Council. In fact, during SRM with Brgy. Officials, they appreciated the effort of Barangay Youth Associations particularly in environmental protection activities. Further, as part of emerging outcome for skilled and involved youth is the recognition and increasing sphere of influence of the Interest Groups. The Kabataang Patrol aired and discussed the topic regarding on the effects of Social Media to the Filipino youth, Pamilyang Listo, Wikang Filipino, Socio-Emotional Development and BATA MUNA. For Kabataang Patrol members, it gives them a privileged to show their capacity and skills in Radio broadcasting. It is also a way of expressing their beliefs and opinions as a children and youth of the new generation “Natutunan ko na ang kabataan pala ay kaya at may malaking maiitulong sa komunidad… (I learned that youth can be a big help in community“.) – PAMANA Parents Association Youth According to KP members, they are all glad to be part of the Radio Team. They are able to package their talent in writing, memorizing and even acting, because in some segments of the KP airing they need to record scene from the script they made. It also develops their writing skills which they can use in the near future. While Teatro, PINTA, and ECO-band showed their skills and environmental advocacy last Green Forum or Children Month Celebration. As a matter of fact, the Teatro group is invited and performed with the subject on environmental protection attended by 350 individuals from different organizations from REINA area, Polilio group of Islands, Rizal, and Aurora that similarly advocate the conservation of Sierra Madre. Additionally, a total 37 YDRRM Facilitators are re-oriented on DRR tools while 129 youth are trained in facilitating CCS and oriented in CPiE. This preparatory activity is conducted in order to contribute through the mainstreaming and sustainability of DRM, CCA, and CP Policies in the LGU. As a result, during the SRM with youth and SRM with CCS, they mentioned that they have learned to calm the children affected by disasters while YDRR facilitators mentioned on HVCA mapping and shared their Family Preparedness Plan (Gabay at Mapa para sa Listong Pamilyang Pilipino) in their respective homes. Also, during SRM with youth, they mentioned that through the Capacity Building given by Reina Federation helped them to increase their confidence and mold them to be a good leader.
